SECTION 3 – MAINTENANCE OF SAFE WORKING CONDITIONS
- LIFTING EQUIPMENT
Slings, chains, shackles etc. must have been inspected during the previous six months by a competent person. The certificate must be available for examination. The safe working load must be clearly marked on all lifting appliances. The operator must inspect equipment prior to use.
Lifting gear will include all chains, wire, or fibre ropes used for lifting, slings, shackles, chain blocks, hooks, rings, lifting beams, gin wheels and any other piece of equipment used to support a suspended load.
- WORKING IN CONFINED SPACES
Hazards can be encountered where work is carried out in excavations, tanks vessels, pipes or other confined spaces
The following processes are especially dangerous when carried out in confined spaces.
- Paint Spraying
- Extensive pre heating (naked flame)
- Welding
- Use of cleaning fluids (solvents)
- Asphyxiation
- Explosion
- Fire
- Oxygen enrichment or deficiency
- Dust and fumes
- Noise
