SECTION 3 – MAINTENANCE OF SAFE WORKING CONDITIONS
- ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES/PORTABLE ELECTRICAL APPARATUS
All Electrical systems and portable electrical apparatus must be installed and maintained in compliance with electricity at work regulations.
Repairs or alteration to electrical systems and appliances must be carried out only by competent persons and written records kept by the duty holder under the regulations. The frequency of testing will be determined by assessing the risk, and will vary with the type of equipment, usage, and the nature of the environment in which it is used.
Generally an external visual inspection should be carried out daily by the user and a full inspection and electrical test carried out every three months by a qualified electrician, and reordered in the small tool register. All electrical connections will be made with the correct plug and socket. Bare wire stick into an electrical socket will not be allowed and if found to be in use the offending cable will be removed. Taped joints in cable are unacceptable.
Portable electrical apparatus such as drills, saws and angle grinders, must be operated through 110 volt transformers and connected to electrical systems by means of correct sockets and plugs. Electrical cables must not be allowed to trail along floors or stair ways but to be properly supported above head height.
Portable Electrical Tools
All Portable Electrical Tools will be operated at a voltage not exceeding 110 volts unless the representative gives prior to the written permission .The power will be supplied through a 22 center tapped transformer. The transformer will be close to the main supply to minimize the 220volt leads. All Extension leads will be 110 volts only.
All portable tools including leads and plugs will be in good condition.
