SECTION 3 – MAINTENANCE OF SAFE WORKING CONDITIONS
  1. ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES/PORTABLE ELECTRICAL APPARATUS
    • All portable electric tools will be adequately guarded to prevent accidental contact with moving parts.
    • Operating any sawing or cutting machine fitted with a circular blade, which is mechanically fed is forbidden unless the person has completed or undergoing an approved course of training
    • All guards must be kept in position and in good repair whilst machinery is being operated.
    • Abrasive wheels – must only be changed by “appointed persons”
    • Eye Protection – of the correct grade must be used with tools and operations.

  2. VEHICLES
    All drivers/operators must be properly trained and instructed before using vehicles. It is forbidden for any person other than the driver, any vehicle that is not designed for the carriage of passengers. Drivers of all vehicles must hold a current driving license for the class of vehicle.

    It is forbidden for any person to ride on hoists not constructed for the carriage of passengers.

  3. ASBESTOS
    Before refurbishment or demolition work is commenced, the site Manager must establish whether asbestos has been used with in the structure of the building. This material is commonly found is bonded products such as resin, bitumen and cement tiles, panels and sheets. It is known as carcinogen and is particularly dangerous when distributed and loose fibers are liberated in to the atmosphere.

    The site Manager will ensure that an assessment of the work to be completed establishes what precautions are necessary to control the exposure of persons at asbestos dust. He will produce a plan of work describing how the work will be carried out and arrange for samples to be obtained and analyzed by an accredited laboratory. A copy of the plan and lab report will be held by the site engineer

    All work with asbestos will comply with the requirements of current regulations.
