SECTION 3 – MAINTENANCE OF SAFE WORKING CONDITIONS
- ASBESTOS
The enforcing authority will be notified by the site engineer of the work description to be carried out and will specify the regulations which apply.
The site engineer will maintain file of all records associated with the discovery, handling and disposal of asbestos
- HIGHLY FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS
Petroleum based adhesive solvent and other highly flammable liquids, shall be in clearly marked containers and stored only in areas designated specifically for this purpose. Bottled gas used for heating appliances in mess should be shutdown at the bottle valve when not is use. Spare bottles not in use must be stored in a well ventilated compound.
NO SMOKING SIGNS SHOULD BE DISPLAYED AND STRICTLY ENFORCED
- ACCIDENT REPORTING
Every Accident must be reported to the site representative and recorded in the accident book. First Aid equipment is located in the site office and marked with a white cross on a green background.
In accordance with the regulations all dangerous occurrence, fatalities or major injuries must be notified to the Health and Safety Officer immediately by telephone. Details must also be sent at once, in writing, to the General Manager by completing the Company Accident Report (HS 11)
- ADVICE TO SUB- CONTRACTORS
- The Company will be pleased to assist Subcontractors in any practical way to facilitate the introduction and maintenance of safe working practices. Every facility will be afforded to officially appointed Safety Representatives in accordance with the Health and Safety Act Subcontractors must notify the Company of nominated person’s names, the date of appointment of termination of duties for a particular site.
- Before commencing work on site, Subcontractors must ensure that their employees are fully aware of general safety procedures.
