SECTION 3 – MAINTENANCE OF SAFE WORKING CONDITIONS
- SCAFFOLDING
All Scaffolding will be erected, altered and dismantled by efficient and skilled crews.
Only tubular scaffolding with the correct scaffolding fittings or system scaffolding will be used on premises.
All materials will be in good condition and will be suitable for the task.
Scaffold tubing will be straight and free from corrosion that is likely to affect its strength. Boards are to be minimum of 387mm thick and 225mm wide. Warped, split otherwise damaged board, board contaminated with oil, chemicals or cement should not be used.
When hiring scaffold from an external source, use hook on boards in preference to wooden boards.
When erecting external scaffolding the following basic rules will be complied with:
- All Standards will be vertical
- Load bearing couplers will be used to secure ledgers to standards.
- Base plate will be used to all standards and shall be on firm stratum.
- Sole boards will be used, where necessary and will span at least two standards.
- Adequate bracing will be installed to prevent any movement.
- The height of the scaffold will not be extended by the use of the ladders, trestles etc
- A safe means of access will be maintained to the scaffolding at all times, including during construction and dismantling
- MOBILE/TOWER SCAFFOLDS
The height when working externally must not exceed three times the smallest base dimension (including outriggers where fitted) or three and one half times when working internally.
